TOP 5 Avoided Cards Moves

The Pass
The Pass is often used like a sledgehammer to open a nut, why shift half a deck when you only to move one card? The only reason could be effeiency in some other way and that is minimum hand movement. The pass is meant to look like nothing has happened, and that not only requires practice but you need a reason why too. There are a myriad of alternatives which help us avoid this four letter word and they are a lot easier.

Faro Shuffle
I mean why do we need to do a perfect shuffle? Let's face, even though I can do a Faro most of the time I still miss now and again, and that kills the effect. Once you pull out of a Faro to readjust its whole purpose has evapourated. Suddenly, from doing a casual mix of the cards you look like you are doing a set-up which requires accuracy. It is easy to practice though so if you love a trick which needs one, go for it. If a trick requires 3 or more in row I'd forget it.

Snap Deal
It isn't because it is difficult that we avoid the Snap Deal, but because it is has bad angles and requires a table. That's my excuse anyway and I'm sticking to it. In truth the Snap Deal when done well is a miracle in itself, but I prefer it as a covert card control. With natural movement and timing it isn't too hard to do and you can manage the angles for most situations. It isn't needed, but an amazing method you can be proud of, which is why you will only use it because you can.

Diagonal Palm Shift
I mean why would you not avoid it. Far too much movement for a card control unless you practice until it is smooth as silk. Quite frankly, the time it takes to master is largely wasted and better spent elsewhere. This one actualy worth avoiding like the M25 at 5 o'clock on a Friday.

Palming
There are no real excuses for by-passing palming, like the double-lift, it is a sleight which enables you to perform a mass of miracles. It seems many new magicians are too scared of palming to even attempt it, which is a shame because certainly in close-up situations it is fairly easy to get away with. Much like the dreaded Pass it more a timing thing than a execution issue. Unless you are going for a one-handed bottom palm the mechanics are straight forward, the rest is attitude. Just do it!
