Be More Funny by Christopher W. Barnes

Be more funny. I'm not convinced this is something to be encouraged, I'm not saying keep failing to be funny, but more try and be engaging without comedy. Please the related article on my views.

All that said, this book really really annoyed me by failing to trip into on any of the useful prat falls I have come expect from someone trying to encourage comedy in magic.

It isn't the usual list of dated one-liners or put downs. In fact he almost encourages you away from vocal jokes and more into making the tricks humourous in themselves. Bang On! Christopher W. Barnes. Better still he has come up with ways of the less comedic mind to develop such tricks, the bloody genius. I hope it comes as no surprise that spoken jokes have the same few structures which once know help to construct a one-liner or rug-pull for example. Christopher W. Barnes has exploited the situation comedy tropes of most comedy sitcoms or sketches to provide guidelines to which you can hang your trick.

The book is massive compared to any 'Be a terrific Stand-up Comedian' book, and it is packed with advice and also examples. I'm sure it isn't his aim, but the examples are too damn good not to think of using while your creative juices get flowing.

The information in this book is comedy magic writing gold, wether you a close-up, parlour or stage, if you want to inject comedy and originality into your performance, this book is the ticket.
