Approaching Magic by David Regal
Quite simply I think this book is a masterpiece. It was originally published about 10 years ago but is now back in print. It was reading this book and David Regal's approach to magic and his ideas that really shaped me as a magician.
It is a very big book, full of wonderful ideas for close-up, cards and coins but also stage effects using objects not associated with magic effects but that elicit an emotion from the audience.
David Regal manages to replace difficult moves with other methods and the occasional clever gaffs, not only making the effect ore manageable but often more amazing.
Honestly there is something for everyone in this book, many of the effects have been released as tricks in their own right, for not much more than the whole book.
