As we start our 15th volume of Magicseen I would like to pay a quick tribute to Deputy Editor Graham Hey and Design Editor Phil Shaw, both of whom have consistently produced great content and design for our magazine for 14 years.
I’m sure that when the three of us originally sat down to plan our first issue we could never have imagined that we would be able to create and sustain our project for so long, and we all look forward to the future of Magicseen with undiminished enthusiasm!
That enthusiasm has produced another vibrant issue of varied and entertaining content this time too! We are hugely pleased to welcome Gary Jones to our cover. Gary lives in Exeter, a delightful city in the west country, and despite its slightly remote location, he has managed to extend his professional path far and wide, performing all over the UK and presenting his lectures at home and abroad. Gary’s down to earth approach to magic is reflected in the article inside and also in the contents of his brand new book, Life’s A Beach, which Magicseen is pleased to be publishing at this time.
Magic is a truly international art, and this is reflected in the rest of issue 85’s content. From the US we welcome Jason Ladanye to our pages, a man whose skills enable him to make a living exclusively from card magic. Ricki Gray provides detailed background to SAMS, the South African Magical Society, in the latest edition of Club Land, and our reports on The Event and The Session conventions which took place last month in London reflect on the efforts of an array of international artistes.
Nearer to home we are pleased to chat to Edward Hilsum, whose youthful features perhaps conceal the huge amount of success he has achieved already. Jay Fortune provides some excellent advice on how to get the best out of working through agents, the Masterclass includes one of the routines from Gary Jones’ new book, plus there is much more to enjoy with the reviews, letters, In The Phonebox etc.
We hope you enjoy this issue and if you are going to Blackpool, remember to say hi to Graham and Phil on the Magicseen stand – oh and pick up your copy of Life’s A Beach from us while you are there as it will be released at the convention.
