How to build an awesome magic website
(a guest post by Kevin King)

In the digital world that we live in you need to be a future client’s close touch. What a better way to market yourself but through a website. It used to be that you had to hire someone who was profuse in computer code and spend thousands of dollars to design a basic website. That is no more with today’s “plug & play” website hosting systems. Now everyone regardless of their computer expertise can build a nice site that will showcase off their Magical skills. When building a great website here are a few key points to pull it off –
Choose an overall website design that matches with your character. A Comedy Magician would lean towards the humorous, a Kid Show Magician would be colorful & fun, a Close-up Magician or a Stage Magician would be a bit more serious and “Magical”. Find an overall theme that fits you.
There is a saying that a picture speaks a thousand words so be sure to add LOTS of photos. One nice headshot and maybe a full-body one of you but mainly lots of action pics. Pictures that show that people are loving your Magic and having a great time works the best.
A short video (3 minutes in length tops) that shows what you can do. A quick edit video works best for this. Good video is MUCH harder to come by than good photos so if you don’t have a good quality video yet I would recommend just sticking with the photos until you have a good enough quality one put together.

  • Have links to your Facebook Page, YouTube Channel, LinkedIn Page, etc…, If you have a Facebook Page remember to add at least one new post a week to keep it fresh.
  • Keep your wording to a minimum.
  • Reference are fine but I would not use too many.
  • A good tip is to place your phone number and email address on top of every website page so that it is easy to find.
  • Include a short bio with some of your career highlights. This is one time that it is ok to brag a bit!
  • People like submission forms so be sure to include one on your website with a few basic entries and a place to leave a message. I always like to give the person who is filling out the submission form the option of whether they would want me to email them back with availability and answers to questions or give them a phone call (around 90% prefer the email route).
  • There are two different formats for websites – one for the computer/laptop and one for the cell phone. It is possible to use the same domain name and have it show up on either device in the best possible way. Recent studies have shown that more and more people are searching on their cell phones so make sure that your website fits on that small screen format and looks its best.
  • Blogs on websites are mainly used for SEO (Search Engine Optimization) purposes so if you are not working with a SEO Marketing Company they are not really that necessary.
  • Overall have your website in a brief period of time tell the story of who you are as a Performer and the great Entertainment experience that you can provide.

Now it is your turn to choose a great domain name and build the website of your dreams!
