Building the PropDog Shop
In March of 2013, after 2 year of searching, I eventually found an industrial unit that would be suitable to base the PropDog Shop.
The unit was previously occupied by a company who dealt with damaged baggage from nearby Heathrow Airport. If your suitcase or bag got damaged during the flight or by baggage handlers, this is where it would end up. They would either fix it, exchange it or evaluate the cost for compensation.
The problem was, this company had gone bankrupt and they’d left the unit in rather a hurry, meaning it was full of hundreds of old suitcases and was in a terrible state. The landlords would sort the unit out, but it would take around 6 months, which I wasn’t willing to do, so I took it as seen.
There was so much work to do, I was quoted about £20,000 for the work necessary to move in, which I didn’t have, so I set about doing all the work myself.
The below videos show the progress of the work I did, from the very beginning, to opening up the shop for customers. It took several months, a lot of late nights and a lot of stress. But I finally did it and we opened the doors in September 2013. Oh how much it's changed since then.
