The PropDog Reel Revolution

Silk through microphone is a classic of stand up magic, and yet finding a suitable reel for it has been close to impossible, that is until Reel Revolution was born. This Reel as the video below shows has been brought about by Dave's persistance.

For silk through microphone you need a reel which will give you enough length, a line which is easily hidden by the hankchief and of course it must be silent. In most circumstances the noise a reel makes is hidden by the general noise of a busy room, but here you are holding it next to microphone, amplifying the merest whirl.

Manufacturing a reel from scratch just wouldn't be cost effective, what PropDog has done is taken the case of a chinese reel and completely reworked the inside workings. Until I was tasked with preparing the individual components I didn't comprehend the amount of labour and the number of processes required just to get the raw parts ready. The craftmanship that goes into putting the reel together is still beyond me, but it is a joy to watch them coming together.

The result as Dave proves in the video is a remarkable reel, which can be used for classics like to serpent silk but is of course perfect for the silk through microphone.
